Canadian Hypnosis Association Policies

The Canadian Hypnosis Association mandate is to promote the Art and the Science of Hypnosis by providing scientific knowledge, direction, teaching of the Art and Science of Hypnosis to empower individuals, and inspiration to those who wish to practice Hypnosis for personal growth and personal empowerment or in a clinical setting. It is the goal and mandate of the Association to review and examine each Practitioner and to provide strong moral guidelines and support for the client first and the Practitioner second.

The following are the requirements on becoming a member of a reputable association that has been supporting its members since 1977.
  • Please be advised that the membership annual fee have increased since Jan 2014. All the members prior to January 2014 will continue paying their dues at the old rate, unless they pass the annual due date. Any members who acquire their membership on or after January 2014 will be accounted with the new annual fees. All the members are required to pay their due on or before January 2 of each year.
  • Members who qualify to facilitate workshops (using CHA logos) must attain the Canadian Hypnosis Association for approval of the content. The approval fee is $30.
  • Any practitioner at any level must be working under another senior level practitioner’s supervision. Canadian Hypnosis Association will refer three candidates as a supervisor and it is the practitioner’s responsibility to contact them and discuss his/ her goals as well as the supervision fee. It is the supervisor’s responsibility to guide the practitioner with challenging situations that may arise during a session, while the practitioner will benefit the wealth of knowledge the supervisor will be offering him/ her. The supervision of Clinical Hypnotherapy certified practitioner requires monitoring of the log notes.
Student Membership:
  • Complete the Canadian Hypnosis Association application form.
  • Criminal record history. ( It is the student’s sole responsibility to cover the costs)
  • Current Resume
  • Reference letter from the instructor/school of hypnosis training.
  • Interview
  • Annual fee $50.00
    ** students can contact the Canadian Hypnosis Association to be assigned to a senior practitioner as a supervisor. The CHA will suggest three practitioner and it is the student’s responsibility to cover the supervision’s cost.
    ** Students have to complete and provide the association with 500 hours of log notes in order to be eligible for the next level of credential.
Certified Hypnosis 1st degree Level
Complete the Canadian Hypnosis Association application form.
Proof of attending 2 workshop/ seminars over the past twelve months.
Proof of attending a 200 hour hypnosis class/ study**
A demo video clip of an hour of session (in case of application from outside our organization)
Proof of Criminal record check for new members and returning members ( It is the student’s sole responsibility to cover the costs).
Current Resume
Cover letter stating personal as well as career goal of the practitioner, in terms of hypnosis.
Reference letter from the applicant’s supervisor.
** Practitioners must contact the CHA to be assigned to senior supervisor. The practitioner will be referred to three senior supervisors which he/she can choose from. It is the practitioner’s responsibility to cover the cost of supervision.
Once all these documents have been sent, the applicant will receive a date for an interview.
If the interview was successful, the applicant will have the opportunity to write the entry level Hypnosis Examination.
Examination Fee $500.00 CAN
If the interview was not successful, the applicant can reschedule a future interview date which will be determined by the
interviewee board members.
Upon completion, the applicant will receive a Certified Hypnotherapy certificate.
Annual Fee $100.00 CAN
**Please be advised that if the annual dues are not paid on or before the specified date, the applicant will loose their membership status with Canadian Hypnosis Association and will have to repeat all the process mentioned above and rewrite the examination.
** Students must complete and provide the Canadian Hypnosis Association with 200 hours of log notes/ training hours/  since the date of start of their previous training, in order to be considered for the next level of credential.

Certified Clinical Hypnosis 2nd degree Level:
  • Complete the Canadian Hypnosis Association application form.
  • Send a copy of Diploma, Certificate or Degrees
  • A demo video clip of one hour session with a client (in case of application from outside CHA). 
  • Proof of attending workshops/ seminars over the past twelve months.
  • Provide the Canadian Hypnosis Association with 650 hours of log notes in order to be considered Certified Clinical Hypnosis Level.
  • Proof of Criminal record check for new members and returning members ( It is the student’s sole responsibility to cover the costs).
  • Current Resume
  • Cover letter stating personal as well as career goal of the practitioner, in terms of hypnosis.
  • Reference letter from the applicant’s supervisor.
  • Once all these documents have been sent, the applicant will receive a date for an interview.

Master Clinical Hypnosis 3rd degree Level:
  • Complete the Canadian Hypnosis Association application form
  • Proof of attending 2 workshop/ seminars over the past twelve months.
  • Provide the Canadian Hypnosis Association with 2400 hours of log notes in order to be considered Certified Master Clinical Hypnosis Level.
  • Proof of a published article in the Canadian Hypnosis Association newsletter.
  • A video clip of an hour of session with a client.
  • Proof of facilitating workshops in the past.
  • Proof of Criminal record check for new members and returning members.
  • Current Resume

International Practitioners:
Any international student or practitioner, who have completed their hypnosis training offshore should provide the Canadian Hypnosis Association with a letter stating their reasons, a copy of their certificate of training, criminal record check from their own country, followed by a skype interview. Upon the approval of the cover letter, the applicant has to fulfill the requirement of the levels of certifications that have been approved by the interviewee.
The examination fee for international enquiries are triple of the national enquiries.

The Canadian Hypnosis Association encourages
  • all members to participate on the quarterly newsletter by submitting written articles, book reviews and research done on the trance related subjects
  • All members to attend workshops and other related training to maximize their knowledge and stay up to date with the art of hypnosis.
Example : Certified Hypnosis entrance level protocol
CHA entry level: A 100 hour workshop module attendance is required, including all the training needed for the CHA’s first 2 exams (Certified Hypnotherapist, and Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist). However, after the first exam (and before the second) the CHA also requires a 650 hour log be kept of ones “Practice”. (There is a third exam for Master of Clinical Hypnotherapy, but it is not to be written until one has logged an additional 2400 hrs. client hours)

*30 hrs additional counseling training (from a PCTIA [ http://www.pctia.bc.ca ] registered school of your choice) is required by the CHA to complete one’s eligibility to write the Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist  exam.

Please note: In Canada, private career training is regulated through "Private Career Training Institutions Agency" (PCTIA). By law, any institution offering a career training program with tuition of $1,000 or more and 40 hours or more in duration MUST register with the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA) and adhere to basic education standards.

CHA, a registered Not for Profit Organization / Society and all it's members in good standing cannot  offer Government regulated "career training program or programs", on any level!!
CHA, as an official recognized backbone of Canadian Society and as a Not for Profit Organisation is moreover providing a very important segment of personal education and sharing knowledge, lectures and information within the Art and Science of Hypnosis and quantum field science/ energy channeling. Such CHA  approved/ selected and accrideted Art of Hypnosis lectures can provide Art of Hypnosis workshops, for personal growth and understanding as well as awareness of the Art and Science of Hypnosis.
Therefore, a CHA Art of Hypnosis certified practitioner (in good standing) must not attempt to treat medical disorders, unless they are trained and FDA (or similar North American Government Agency) approved medical professionals. Any Art of Hypnosis client with a medical problem must be urged to seek proper professional treatment first!! However, the free will of individual participants have to be respected.
